What to wear - clothing advice

In terms of thinking about your clothing for your photography session I am happy to have a conversation to help you narrow down what to wear and bring along on the day. Feel free to get in touch and have a chat!

There are no rules in my opinion - we should always celebrate our unique look and style with what you choose to wear and how you express yourself to the world.

Most importantly, you must be comfortable and let your personality come through.

If you would like a few clothing suggestions to help guide you for your photography session then please see some tips below:

  • Bright white is not suggested, this can overpower skin tones and be distracting for the rest of the image (your eye automatically looks at white first in an image)

  • Prints and patterns can be great - although some patterns can cause a moire effect. Moiré occurs when the fabric being photographed contains repetitive details (dots, lines, checks, stripes) that exceed the sensor resolution. The camera produces a strange-looking wavy pattern that can look distracting in the images

  • If you have blue or green eyes, clothing in these colour tones can really amplify your eyes in your portraits

  • Dark clothing can be great for a more slender look

  • Steer clear of branding names splashed across your outfits - unless it is your brand and part of the shoot

  • Glasses - please bring and wear if this is part of your look, bring many pairs!!! The best glasses to photograph are not coated for glare or tinted - especially not transitional lenses that automatically go dark with outside light

  • Bring along your favourite accessories - scarfs, jewellery, jacket to go with dress or shirts
